Nice to meet you...
Hi! my name is Lee Look...I'm running for St. Matthews City Council, in November of 2022.
I've lived in the heart of St. Matthews for 15 years.
In my work life, I am a Captain for St. Matthews Fire & EMS, currently riding out of the station at Hubbards Lane and Brownsboro Road. As well, I am the Director of Therapeutic Services at Cedar Lake Lodge, a residential facility for people with disabilities. I have a PhD in Counseling Psychology, and am a SHRM-certified Human Resources Professional, and a licensed Long-Term Care Administrator.
I've secured over $1.6 million dollars in grants for the fire department, and have been published numerous times in trade journals.
Prior to all of this, I was a professional artist, acting and directing around the country in theatre, film, and television (I was even on Sesame Street for a few seconds--link is below!).
I've also been a bartender, a direct support professional for people with disabilities, and a teacher with the Governors Scholars Program.
I served on the board of the Kentucky Chapter of the ACLU for 12 years, and am currently a member of the Kentucky chapter of the United States Commission on Civil Rights.
I'm endorsed by the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 3972.
And endorsed by the staff of DiOrio's Pizza & Pub, on Wallace Ave.
And I am a Certified Bourbon Steward with the Stave & Thief Society.
Let me interrupt this introduction by saying, I am the most fortunate person in the world. There is no question about this. I have a partner that I both love, and like. And I think she feels the same way. My father, the best person I’ve ever known, is amazing; and yet, he’s not him, without my mother. She is the glue. The unsung hero. Like most mom’s. My daily call. My brother, I know, has my back, no matter what. And he knows I have his. Watching him grow from a husband, into a father, into a parent, has been inspiring. I have a roof over my head, and enough to eat, and way too many streaming services on my TV. So yes. I am the most fortunate person.
And here’s the insane part of all that fortune; I don’t deserve it. I haven’t done anything that would merit this gift; not that I’m a terrible person. but I’m no better than anyone else; so, what does a person do with this? That is the question I try, every day, to answer. And it starts, by trying to serve my community, and especially, those without a voice.
